Renaissance Faces: Van Eyck to Titian and Sisley in England and Wales
The National Gallery, London
Tuesday 18 November 2008
£28 inclusive. (To London only £22.00 subject to availability)
Renaissance Faces. This landmark exhibition will explore the dramatic rise of portraiture in the Renaissance. Featuring works by the great masters of Northern and Southern Europe, including Raphael, Titian, Botticelli, Van Eyck, Holbein, Dürer, Lotto, Pontormo and Bellini the exhibition will provide a rare opportunity to explore Renaissance portraiture in exceptional depth, displaying over 70 paintings alongside important sculptures, drawings and medals.
Sisley in England and Wales.
Sisley was born in Paris to English parents and remained a british subject through out his life but he only undertook two painting expeditions to Britain during his lifetime. This exhibition provides a chance to celebrate this relatively unexplored part of the artists work. It also represents a rare phenomenon – two sustained attempts by an impressionist painter to capture the unique qualities of the British landscape.
