Lecture in conjunction with Sherborne Art Club and 'The Artist' Magazine.
Given by Julian Halsby
Wednesday September 24th. 8.00pm
Venue: The Digby Hall, Hound Street, Sherborne.
The New English Art Club was established in 1886 as a reaction to the conservatism of the Royal Academy. It still flourishes today and amongst its members are some of Britain's best loved painters including Ken Howard, Fred Cuming, Bernard Dunstan, Diana Armfield, Janes Corsellis, Peter Brown, Richard Pikesley and Peter Kuhfeld. Julian Halsby knows all these artists personally and has written about their work in 'The Artist' Magazine. He will show over 100 examples of their work, discuss their working methods and the relationship between their art and the so called 'cutting edge'. This lecture will appeal to working artists , both professional and amateur, as well as collectors and those who simply like looking at finely crafted paintings in which drawing, composition, tonal colour and, above all, skill play an important part.
